2022 SKILLS USA NATIONAL CONTEST

TEFGA has again been asked by Yamaha Marine to administer the 2022 Skills USA National Contest that is being held at the Georgia World Congress Center on June 20-24, 2022. We look forward to seeing the contestants in person from all around the nation compete in this intense competition.

On Friday April 29th, flight teams from Georgia’s high school aviation programs will compete at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) in this first annual statewide competition. Teams of students will be evaluated on navigation skills, aviation test questions, aircraft walk around procedures, full motion simulator testing and oral interviews.

Ground Transportation

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there are over 441,910 transportation related careers in the state of Georgia. May 2020 OEWS State Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates (bls.gov). With a rapidly aging workforce there will be unlimited opportunities for employment and advancement in the field to qualified applicants.

Air Transportation

The Aeronautical Repair Station Association (2020) ranks Georgia fourth for United States for MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) employment. In total, the state has more than 22,000 MRO employees split between civilian and military operations. There are over 5,000 commercial pilots, 5,000 flight attendants and 1,100 air traffic controllers based in Georgia.

Marine Technology

There are over 330,000 registered boats in the state of Georgia. Each of these vessels will need professional maintenance by skilled mechanics and technicians. Training in marine technology is available at Lanier Technical College – Gainesville Marine Engine Technology - Lanier Technical College and it is covered by the Hope Grant.
